Ruby & Charlotte - 4 months

R & C
Ruby and Charlotte are four months old today.  They are such wonderful little babies. Brett and I love squeezing, cuddling, and being with our daughters as much as we can.  We love these sweet little things so much that we just slipped in to our bedroom (I'm writing this at night) to watch them sleep! (But when one of them moves in their sleep we take off running so they don't see us...we're not crazy enough to want them to wake up!)
Ruby
For the past several weeks, they have dropped down to six feedings per day and have been sleeping for really long stretches at night.  Oh what a difference it has made for this tired momma!  The girls go to bed for the night around 6:30pm and get one more feeding sometime around 9pm - or whenever I get around to it.  (I have been very inconsistent with the timing of this "dream feed" for whatever reason.  Mainly because I get sidetracked with other things!)  They sleep until 6am and sometimes later but only if Hank is quiet...which is usually never.  They are taking 3-4 naps per day on a regular schedule when we are home but sometimes they have to squeeze in naps in the car or in the stroller if we have things we need to go do.  Luckily, they are pretty good when their schedule gets off.

The girls have amazing smiles.  Both of them smile so big their eyes twinkle and when they laugh it's infectious.  They smile and laugh at us all the time.  Sometimes all I have to do it just look at them for a few seconds and they will just break out laughing and squealing.  Apparently they have inherited my sense of humor and they will laugh at anything.  They laugh as soon as Henry gets close to them and he loves this so much.  Brett loves to make them laugh by showing them his dance moves.

They are both getting very close to turning over.  Charlotte seems like she will do it first because she consistently will rock towards her side when she is on her back.  Today during tummy time she flipped over onto her back from her tummy but it didn't really look intentional so I'm not sure if it was a real roll or not.

They both seem to have tripled their neck strength and head control in just the past couple of weeks.  We sit them on our laps looking outward and they can hold their heads up just fine.  It's so much fun to be hitting this stage because they can really interact with us and hang out with us so much more.  Now that they are bigger it's easier to hold one and play with Hank at the same time so the girls are getting into the playtime mix with Hank a lot more often.  When they do tummy time they hold their head up immediately whereas just a month ago they would cry a lot and they didn't like it very much.  Today I put them on the ground facing each other during tummy time and their eyes lit up and they were so excited to see each other!
Charlotte
Both girls have the sweetest demeanor.  Both are very vocal and are definitely excited that they can make noise now.  They love to "talk" to us as much as possible.  I can tell their voices and cries apart when I'm not looking at them and I get it correct 90% of the time.  Some days they look a lot alike and very different at other times but we have no trouble telling them apart.  It's funny because even though they are identical twins they look really different to us!  Their skin tone and hair color is the same as well as their eye color.  Oh how we love their eyes.  They have the same exact color blue eyes (in the pictures in this post their eye colors look different due to the lighting) and they are such a pretty color.  I could stare at their eyes for ages!
Charlotte
They are still sleeping in the bassinet in our room.  A few days ago we started weaning them off of their swaddles.  We're doing one arm swaddles now and it's going pretty well.  I'm sort of anxious about unswaddling them completely because as of now, they sleep just fine together all cozy in the little bassinet.  Once they are unswaddled, who knows what's going to happen.  We are going to keep them sleeping in our room until we move to a new house and they get their own room or until we get the courage to have them share a room with Hank, whichever comes first.  They are still using their pacifiers like crazy and I don't think I'll wean them off of them any time soon.  I made Hank get rid of it around 4 months because I was tired of going into his room all the time to put it back in his mouth when he woke up crying.  But Ruby & Charlotte don't seem to cry for it as much when they sleep or maybe it's just because they sleep about two feet from my bed so it's not such a big deal if I have to give them a pacifier in the middle of the night.  Either way, their pacis haven't gotten on my nerves yet so for now they get to keep them!
Charlotte
Now that they are getting older, they are starting to realize when the other one is crying or laughing or making noises and they are copying each other more often.  They are also noticing each other more often visually and I love it when they smile at each other.  We can't wait to see their relationship blossom and to see how they interact with each other when they are more mobile.
Ruby
I am hesitant to describe everything as if they are both the exact same baby but for now, they really are doing everything pretty much the same.  We are so blessed beyond measure to have these girls in our lives.  Ruby and Charlotte are sweet, happy, and EASY babies.  They hardly ever cry (unless they are hungry or they have a dirty diaper) and when they do I kind of get a little freaked out because I am not used to having to console a baby!

Four months stats from their doctor's appointment:
Ruby:  Weight: 9 lbs 11.5 oz (.91%)  Height:  24.5" (65.24%)  Head:  15.5" (13.68%)
Charlotte:  Weight:  9 lbs 6.5 oz (.50%)  Height:  23.75"  (35.39%)  Head:  15.5"  (13.68%)

They are barely on the weight charts!  The doctor isn't concerned so we aren't either but it's still so crazy that they are so light.  They have been moving up in the height and head circumference percentiles so I guess this month they were focused on getting bigger and not heavier!

We are so thankful to be blessed with these sweet babies.  Our hearts are so full of love for them.  Happy four months Ruby and Charlotte!
