Freezing at the beach is still better than not going to the beach

On Saturday we had grand plans to take the kids to the beach in Capitola.  Brett and I love going probably as much as Hank does so we have missed not going very often this summer.  It was going to be Ruby and Charlotte's first time at the beach.  It was also going to be a risky adventure seeing as we didn't have another adult to help us.  But we are trying to embrace the fact that being outnumbered is our fate and we have to figure it out and not let it keep us from getting out there!  (Easier said than done ha!)  This had huge potential to be the worst idea ever.  We were kinda late getting on the road after the girls' morning nap so by the time we got onto 17 to head south it was already packed with beach-going traffic.  We had to make the decision to abort our plan and go north to Half Moon Bay to ensure we would get to the beach by lunch time.  We were bummed because it meant we were headed to the cold beach instead of the sunny one.

Once we got into HMB we stopped to pick up a pizza for our picnic and once I stepped out of the car I realized just how cold it was.  It was 59 degrees.  Oops.  I went into a Mexican hole-in-the-wall clothing store next to the pizza joint that looked like it was full of cast-offs that weren't even good enough to send to Goodwill and everything was just dumped out everywhere.  The craziest store I have ever been in.  I bought Hank a hoodie and the girls some socks all for a negotiated price of $8 and all of which were buried under piles of other clothes only to be found by the lone cashier.  We were going to keep our kids warm!  And I guess we know where to go next time we go to HMB and forget our sweaters.

In the end, we had an amazing time and loved it!  We were chilly but it felt quite warm on the beach.  The girls loved getting their hands in the sand.  Logistically it just didn't work out to let them get their toes in the water so we'll have to let them experience the water another time.  (Two crawling babies plus Hank near the water was too adventurous for us, plus the girls wanted to eat the sand so very badly.)

It was not easy getting all of our gear down the stairs to the beach and luckily a nice lady carried the pizza for us on the way down.  Hank offered to carry it but that was not a good idea.  We had so much fun and Brett and I were patting ourselves on the back for conquering our little fear of taking them to the beach by ourselves and we plan to go back soon.  But hopefully to Capitola!

They found the pizza box.

They ate pizza and ate their new socks.  Not sure which one was worse.

The view of HMB on the drive in...the fog rolling in.
The sun coming out as we were leaving...the fog burning off.
We live in such a beautiful part of the country!  You gotta love summer - it can be in the 50's on the coast and 80's back inland where we live just less than 30 miles apart.

Happy Birthday Brett!

I am so glad God gave me Brett.  He is the best father I could ever want for our children and of course the man of my dreams!

Happy Birthday!  34 years old.  Wow...we are getting up there!  We have a babysitter lined up for tonight and we are leaving the second the kids lay their sweet little heads down in their cribs.  We are looking forward to celebrating kid-free!

At the end of March, Charlotte and Ruby went with me to visit Brett at work.  I love bringing the chaos to his office!

Putting together the third crib

A month ago we bought a third crib and officially turned Hank's room into the kids' room.  Hank was really excited to help put the new crib together.  He absolutely must be given the screwdriver or he loses his little mind patience.

Gotta lick the screwdriver just for good measure.

15 years of togetherness

Today marks 15 years of togetherness for Brett and me.  (Or maybe it was yesterday, I never can remember if it was the 2nd or 3rd, and for sure Brett has no idea).  My dear Brett...I've loved every minute of these past 15 years plus the several months before that when I was stalking you and waiting for you to ask me out on a date.

Lots of random posts coming up here on The Blogtacular.  The month of March flew by for me and the blog fell by the wayside.  There are posts in draft mode and pictures piling up on my computer just waiting to be shared.  I've been sewing lately and have a few projects planned for Easter so that has been taking up my spare time after the kiddos go to sleep.  Regular posting to resume soon!

Tummies on tummies

Ruby doing tummy time on Dad...Charlotte doing tummy time on Hank!  When Hank saw Ruby on Brett he begged us to let Char get some tummy action with him!
Charlotte started talking to Hank right when I took his picture!

Daddy's home!

Brett has been in Austin all week and we are so excited he is home!  Hank was glued to Brett the instant he walked in the door this afternoon and the two didn't separate until we put Hank to bed.  We celebrated Brett's homecoming with dinner out on the town.
Four and a half days with all the kiddos by myself?  It wasn't so bad but this momma sure is glad to have Brett home!

Hank's first train ride

Last Saturday Brett took Hank on his first ride on a real train!  They rode the Caltrain from the California Avenue stop by our house all the way down to San Jose Diridon station.  The girls and I dropped them off and then picked them up in SJ (which is right next door to the apartment complex where we lived back in the day!)

When we picked them up we went to Chipotle by the train station and grabbed some lunch and met up with my good friend Julie.

The girls enjoying watching me eat my lunch.

Hank stuffing a lot of food in his mouth.

The highlight of lunch was a little Thomas the Train bath tub toy that Julie gave him.  It was a "big brother" gift but it was perfect for celebrating his very first train ride!  He LOVES this toy!

Here he is giving his toy its inaugural bath!  He is so happy he has this toy.  He likes to go get it from the bathroom and bring it all over the house.  It has forced me to remember to dump out the water...lesson learned...I don't need bath water all over the house.

Brett can't wait to take Hank on a train ride again.  Hank had so much fun and he was yelling "choo choo"
over and over again and it was a total blast for both of them.  Whenever the train would stop at a station, Hank would start begging for "more" because he wanted the train to start moving again.  I have a movie Brett made and I'll get it posted this weekend.

It was also so great to see my pal Julie!  We are in Junior League together and we hardly have time to see each other besides at our meetings.  I was so happy she finally got to meet the girls!  (Sadly, I didn't get a pic of her.)
