Charlotte & Ruby - one year

Charlotte

 Ruby

Charlotte and Ruby turned one year old on October 7th.  Here's what I had written up to post back then...

Ruby took a few steps on her own on 9/26 and has been doing it every day since then.  Charlotte has decided she likes to stand holding onto things more than standing by herself.  She doesn't seem real interested in it.  Funny thing is that Ruby isn't very good at walking when we hold her hands.  She gets jello legs and falls down on purpose and laughs like a crazy lady.  Charlotte, on the other hand, is thrilled when we hold her hands to walk.  She marches all around, high stepping it, and is so strong.  Charlotte has been walking while pushing chairs for over three months.  Ruby hardly ever pushes the chairs, but she's the one standing on her own and taking steps.  It's so interesting to see their differences in this area.

When Ellie barks both girls like to mimic her and start making their own noises.  I think they are both saying "Ellie" now.  They make the same noise Henry did "a-yay" when ever she starts barking.

They love it when Hank or I copy their noises.  When they make a loud noise or babble, if we repeat it, they laugh so hard and then start it up again.

Still no teeth!

Ruby has started playing peek a boo with me.  She will lift a blanket in front of her face and then pull it down real fast and laugh when I say peek a boo.  Then repeat.

They dropped down to 4 feedings this month and I 'm going to start weaning them soon.  It's bittersweet but I am so ready to be done!

The girls started sleeping much better throughout the night - less waking up randomly.  Now they have been waking up between 5 and 6 for a couple of weeks straight.  It's nice to still be nursing because I can feed them and we all get to sleep longer.  I'm not looking forward to this happening once they are weaned.  Then we all gotta get up.

It finally feels like I am able to slow down and love on them so much more now.  It sounds so cliche but it's been true...I have fallen more in love with them as time goes by.  I feel like I know them so much better now and my heart just might burst with love for them.  It's not that I didn't love them before but now I feel like we have such a deeper connection and it's just pure love instead of robot mommy taking care of two babies.  (Girls, if you are reading this one day when you are older, please don't think that I didn't love you before now!)

Stats from their one year checkup:
Weight:
Ruby 14 lb 11 oz (0.00%)
Charlotte  14 lb 15 oz (0.00%)
Yes, still very light weight but they are mighty!  For the first time in their lives, Charlotte is heavier than Ruby!

Height:  Both 29" (40.22%)They are now at the upper limit of their infant carrier car seats.  We have milked them as long as we can.  It is so nice to strap them into the seats in the house then carry them outside to load in the van.  We have to buy new seats which means we are soon about to enter into the world of loading three toddlers into a car.  I am scared.

Head circumference:  Both 17.75"  (52.51%)

Charlotte and Ruby are at such a fun age!  We love them so much.  Happy Birthday girls!
