Charlotte and Ruby are five months old! They are growing. They are joyful. They are perfect.
They learned how to roll over earlier this month but didn't do it too often. Over the past two weeks they have gone from rarely rolling over to going from their backs to their tummies almost immediately whenever we put them down to sleep or to lounge.
Their other favorite physical activity this month is playing with their feet as much as possible! They grab and eat their own toes and each others'. I don't know what it is but I just love seeing babies all curled up into a ball with their feet in their mouths (and sometimes each others' feet!). They are so adorable like that and I love to see them exploring and learning like this.
Charlotte and Ruby LOVE to squeal at each other, at me and Brett, and especially at Henry. Brett loves when he lifts them up over his head and they laugh and squeal.
Ruby still passes out smiles for free to anyone who looks at her. Charlotte stares you down for a little while before she cracks and gives you a smile. That is, unless you do real crazy things to make her laugh or if you are Henry. Henry can make them laugh so hard it is just the best entertainment for all of us when he gets them going.
They get very excited when they see their pacifiers. They can get them into their mouths on their own which has been so helpful for us. Hank never did that because he didn't use a pacifier for this long. It's pretty convenient! Sometimes when they are laying together I find them with each other's pacis in their mouths. Not sure how the paci swap happens because I haven't witnessed it yet!
The girls now sleep separately, but still in our room. Oh how my heart broke the first time I put them down to sleep separately! The past couple of weeks have been a little rough in the sleeping department. They had always been super great nappers but they started waking up early from naps more often. At night, they had been sleeping all night (with a feeding at 10pm-ish) for about a month prior, but the past couple of weeks they have been waking up a lot. I figured out that they have been rolling around a lot in their beds and they were waking themselves up and not able to get back to sleep. We have been working on helping them settle themselves when on their tummies. The last two nights have been OK and they have been settling themselves back to sleep with little assistance from us so I hope we are getting back to sleeping for long interrupted stretches at night again! I think they have finally gotten the hang of not being freaked out if they end up on their tummies in their beds.
Both of them have been grabbing on to books when we read with them sitting in our laps. So cute!
Charlotte loves to get cozy on your shoulder or chest when you hold her. This makes Brett so happy! He loves to cuddle our kids. Ruby likes to push off of us and look around a lot more than Char. But if you snuggle Ruby just the right way, she too will melt into you and enjoy a nice cuddle.
We weighed them about a week ago and Ruby was 10 lbs 9 oz and Charlotte was 10 lbs 1 oz.
We love these little sweethearts so much. These past five months have just flown by!
